Coocerqui, a consumer cooperative rooted in Cerquilho, underwent a significant transformation by adopting Inwave's Darwin Platform to manage their checkout operations. Cooperation and customer service have always been part of Coocerqui's DNA, and implementing this technology further reinforced these values, bringing efficiency and agility to their operations.
Checkout operation challenges
Before implementing the Darwin Platform, Coocerqui faced common retail operation challenges such as errors and delays in checkout processes. Real-time intervention to prevent losses is one of the advantages highlighted by Michel Mendes, Head of Loss Prevention at Coocerqui:
“We already used some control measures. In a way, we could identify errors and incidents, but always after they happened, not in real-time.” — Michel Mendes
Identifying errors only after they occurred prevented Coocerqui from offering more efficient operational control.
The Solution: Inwave Darwin – Checkout Module
With the adoption of the Darwin Platform for the checkout, formerly known as EASiCash, Coocerqui found an efficient solution for process control, loss reduction, and cost reduction.
It is a web platform with cloud storage that integrates various data for process management and control, with intelligent filters and alerts for real-time or post-event auditing, data analysis, and remote monitoring functionality that allows for remote validation of checkout processes, which previously required a store supervisor's presence.
Michel Mendes highlighted the improvements brought by the technology:
“The EASiCash system operates from our headquarters, where we monitor all checkout operations. Using this technology brought agility to the checkout, contributing to operational cost reduction, which is very important for our business.” — Michel Mendes
More agility and better checkout experience
The Darwin Platform with Remote Supervisor allowed Coocerqui to drastically reduce the time needed to resolve checkout issues, directly impacting customer experience in the store and reducing queues:
“Previously, we needed 2 to 4 minutes to resolve an item cancellation. In this new centralized format, the service time dropped to 22 seconds.” — Michel Mendes
Operational cost reduction and checkout results
Coocerqui's Director, Raul Araújo, emphasized the importance of using Inwave's checkout technology, which brought more agility, fewer errors, and reduced operational costs for the company:
“Using this technology brought agility to the checkout, contributing to operational cost reduction, which is very important for our business because, like all retailers, our profit margin is very narrow.” — Raul Araújo
Another benefit Coocerqui gained from switching to the Darwin Platform is related to improved audits, which are now more frequent and accurate:
“We had an average of 4,000 audits per month, transforming into 60,000 audits.” — Michel Mendes
Moreover, real-time monitoring enabled Coocerqui to quickly correct processes and avoid operational errors, resulting in up to an 80% reduction in checkout operation failures. This was crucial for critical sectors such as beverages, milk, and sodas.
More security and less loss with antitheft antennas
In addition to improving checkout operations, Coocerqui also implemented Inwave's antitheft antennas with the EASi – Intelligent EAS system – for electronic merchandise protection in the sales area, preventing product confinement and reducing thefts.
“We chose Inwave for the antitheft antennas precisely because of the embedded technology, where we can monitor incidents and also monitor the antennas online.” — Michel Mendes
Developed by Inwave, the intelligent EAS (EASi) consists of antennas and deactivators connected to the internet, which can be accessed remotely for status checks, technical adjustments, and generating operational data for more efficient management.
Michel also noted that the partnership with Inwave not only brought technological and operational improvements but also continuous and efficient support:
“We managed to complete the entire implementation in a short period, with support from the beginning of the operation, training, follow-up, and exceptional after-sales service.” — Michel Mendes
With a technology investment focused on improving operational efficiency, Coocerqui is a great example of how technology can transform retail operations, providing faster and more efficient customer service, reducing operational costs, and increasing security.
